Welcome to our ETSW Team Quest page
What is Team Quest?
Team Quest is an opportunity to represent ETSW in team dressage competitions. It’s designed to be fun, supportive and a way to have a go at riding in dressage competitions. There are a series of competitions at various local venues running from January to October which are run by British Dressage. The competition levels include Intro (Walk and Trot), Preliminary and Novice.
You don’t need to wear jacket and stock/tie for Team Quest, you wear the team kit, so it’s all a lot less formal.
Costs:
Team Uniform
If you want to represent us, we do ask that you purchase our Team Kit which includes a turquoise long sleeved base later (we can send you an eBay link) and a ETSW branded gilet. The cost of the gilet is £35.00 and this can be ordered via our website.
We also ask that your horse wears a navy or white dressage square, this can also be branded via our merchandise supplier.
British Dressage Membership:
As Team Quest is run by British Dressage you will need to register as a Club Member in order to compete – you will be issued with a membership number. You will also need to register your horse/s and they will also be given a membership number.
Club membership is £35.00 per year and the cost of horse membership is £15.00 (2022 prices). https://www.britishdressage.co.uk/membership/club-membership/
You will also have to pay your entry fees for the competitions.
Eligibility:
If you have competed in British Dressage previously, it may be worth checking that you are eligible to take part in Team Quest. You can check on the BD Website: BD Team Quest eligibility
If you have not competed in BD affiliated competitions before then you are definitely able to take part. Placings and wins in unaffiliated competitions don’t count.
Tack
We also need to follow the normal British Dressage tack and hat requirements and these are often checked at competitions. You will need two bridle numbers or saddle cloth numbers – one for each side.
Vaccinations:
At the current time 2022 vaccinations are 6 monthly for British Dressage.
Competition Venues:
These currently include Badgworth, Mendip Plains, Kings Sedgemoor, Chard and Burrows Court. There is normally at least one competition a month in our region taking place at weekends and weekdays with occasional evening competitions in the summer months.
How does it work?
We need a minimum of 3 people for each team. Up to 4 people can compete in their team in each competition with the top 3 scores counting towards a league table. Up to 7 people can be registered for each team. You can then decide between you who can attend each competition. Members need to be 6 years or over, if we get enough interested junior members, we can also put together an under 21 team.
Each team needs to choose a team name and a team captain. For example, our 2022 teams include ETSW Enter a A and proceed to Prosecco, the ETSW Half Passed Its and ETSW Rein on your Parade. So you can see we don’t take ourselves too seriously!
At competitions, you will receive your dressage score sheet as normal and also a rosette if your team is placed.
The leagues are split into regions and the top scoring teams then have the opportunity to represent their region at a regional championship (normally held in March at Chard Equestrian Centre). The winner of the region, can then go on and take part in the national finals (previously held in late October at Bury Farm, Bucks). We have previously got to the regional finals, but have yet to compete in the Nationals!
My Quest
British Dressage also run My Quest competitions which run along similar lines to Team Quest, but you do need to wear the standard dress code of jacket and shirt. My Quest competitions are run on the same day as Team Quest, so you can also enter and compete in these at the same time as Team Quest if you want to.
